eScaleCars.com's ownership has changed (see history). My nick name is Zoomie. I am the owner of Zoomie's Workshop. eScaleCars.com is now a feature at Zoomie's Workshop. I am also a manufacturer and distributor of a variety unique items in the hobby industry.
My hobbies include building and driving hot rods and custom cars, and building model cars. I used to be an instructor of technology & business but today I co-own and operate a construction business in home repairs (see www.handymanrick.com).
I have been on-line since 1979, and have had a successful on-line mail order business in the computer industry since 1983—featured on CyberLife (PBS) TV, in Invention & Technology magazine and BYTE magazine, and recently featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, and on TechTV (see www.club100.org).
HISTORY
eScaleCars.com started out in December 1999 as a joint venture co-owned by Roy Sorenson and Rick Hanson. During the year 2000, eScaleCars.com authored 5 model car magazines on CD, using the web site model, wherein customers used their web browser, off-line, to read and enjoy the CDs. Our CDs brought rave reviews and a loyal—albeit too small to support the business—following.
Rick Hanson (AKA Zoomie) was the majority force behind the vision, development and management of all that was eScaleCars.com, i.e., all the web site work, product development, marketing, order processing, and day-to-day management. Roy wrote the articles and took some of the photos. It was actually a pretty good relationship. It worked. Roy and Rick are still friends.
After a year in operation, it was clear that market conditions were not suited to support continued operations. We highly suspect Kalmbach Publishing (Scale Auto Enthuseast magazine—the only magazine we advertised in, monthly for a year) for grossly overstating their customer base numbers.
